Portrait format painting of a head and torso in mixed media pencil and pastel painting, depicting a figure holding a large fan in front of her face, you can see her features faintly behind the fan.

The work has dark and light subtle chiascuro and the colour hues are pastel pink contrasted with greys and blacks.

From the Artist:

I frequently worked from other images, paintings, postcards and even newspaper photographs. In this case, the figure is exactly inspired by a newspaper photograph of Isabella Rossellini when she heard about the death of her mother Ingrid Bergman. I added the fan she was clutching in her hands, clasped in grief.

I also was suffering from grief at the time.

The countenance and gesture of the figure is introspective.
