This is a landscape format watercolour, using wet and dry techniques to render the textual surface of the seedpods.  Two pods are set against the dark background, the one on the left is closed with bulges hinting at the seeds within.  The one on the right is open, and the seeds have dropped out.  These two pods are anchored into a gold leaf border.

This image is a metaphor of the idea of something closed and something open.  The closed image is mysterious, the open version symbolises that something has been lost and broken.

The other idea is that it is a formal image, hinting at the Roman numeral for four (IV).
