Landscape format water colour and mixed media painting showing a winged pod with red tips to its outer edges. It is light in tone showing detailed veining in the wings leading to a dark toned textured central section of two bulging seeds. the pod is held upright by its stem which is anchored in the border. The background is dark in tone suggesting storm clouds in the sky.

From the artist
I painted many acers in the 1990's. As they are heavier in the base they twirl like mini helicopters when falling from the tree and are also blown by the wind to disperse.
I was fascinated by the different varied shapes and hues of this simple design.

To study and paint a single object from nature one becomes aware of diversity and personality everywhere.
