A roundel painting on wood using egg tempera pigments and gold leaf shows a black/brown shiny ant moving across the circle. It is poised on one leaf from which it has taken a bite and about to move onto another part of which is shown to the right of the composition. The ant's head shows one eye which looks at the viewer benignly.

I looked at many photographs of ants till I found what I was looking for. I am always astonished by the intelligence and activities of small creatures. I was hoping to find a suitable picture of an ant carrying a leaf but ultimately I decided to show the ant busy on the forest floor. These animal roundels were for the Spirit Animals exhibition in Rochester Cathedral, Kent in 2025.
