View all Seed Pods

Portrait format watercolour of a similar pod to Colutea II. But it has been split down its other spine to show the various seeds still attached to each rim. In this painting the light area is within the split and the overall shape is angular. This pod dangles at a right angle across the composition hanging by the stem from the decorative gold leaf border. There is the suggestion of a moody dark sky beyond.

From the artist
As I was painting this specimen which I had prised open myself I was thinking of the work of Egon Schiele and his somewhat agonised figure drawings. Again there is a sexual implication but of a different orientation to the idea of symbolic feminine reproduction.
