View all Seed Pods
Large portrait format oil painting on canvas. Approximately 6x3 feet in size. The image shows two vertical pods of the nigella family, golden in colour against an intense blue background. They are very different however in form. The one on the left seems to be contorted and surrounded by a filigree web of linear shapes, whilst the right hand pod is straight and upright. The stems of both pods widen to show the various chambers where the seeds would be held.
From the Artist:
These two pods could stand as a metaphor for a couple who are in an uneven relationship. The left hand pod is performing a dance to attract the attention of the other. It could be a kind of courtship activity, symbolising the confusion and mysteries of the heart.
