Portrait format mixed media oil pastel painting of a torso and head wearing a spiked crown.

The figure and crown has variable tonality whilst the background is dark with a red horizon line suggesting warfare or sunset. The head is seen in profile, the expression on the face suggests disappointment, possibly anger and mixed emotions.

The hand of the right arm is supporting the chin whilst the left arm is clutched and propping up the right elbow. Thus the figure conveys not only an emotional expression in the face but also in the gestures of the hands.

From the Artist:

The form of the crown is based on a microscopic Radiolaria from the works of Ernst Haeckel.

This piece is inspired from a black and white photograph in the National Portrait Gallery of Lawrence of Arabia.
